Hanoi to Hoi An, on Saturday

Although we managed to change our flights from ~7ish to the more reasonable 10:30ish we still had to get up early. Packing and getting to the airport takes time.

We left the apartment just before 8:30 but the weather was just miserable.

View west from our apartment at 8:00

Final panorama of really ordinary Hanoi weather

Here is what the spectacular bridge over the Red River looks like when it's covered in mist

It took a lot longer than it normally would to get to Terminal 2, which was the wrong one. Why did we go to Terminal 2?
Partially because the itinerary supplied by Vietjet Air did not state which terminal our flight was leaving from and partially because the cab driver was an unhelpful pr!ck.
Thankfully there was a shuttle bus between Terminal 2 and the terminal we needed to be at, Terminal 1, and a lot of very nice people that helped us find our way.

We checked in, not without a bit of drama, in time and were glad to see the glum dreary weather get left behind.

About 60 minutes later we landed in Da Nang and it warm 28 degrees C.
The bus driver loaded up our bags and 45 minutes later we arrived at our hotel - La Residencia
The place is quite nice but don't bother booking with Expedia or booking.com or Agoda as they almost always get something important in the booking wrong. In this case they had Georgia and Emma in a double bed. No one was happy about the stuff up but they are going to fixit up tomorrow.

Next are all the pics we took after we arrived.

All of the pictures above are of places crammed into a tiny area known as Old Town.
There are hundreds of tailors, cobblers, restaurants, coffee shops, t-shirt shops,
motorcycle hire / motorcycle repairs / laundry (yes they are all one business here) shops,
jewellery shops, market food stalls and on and on.
The whole area is barely over 1km square but it takes a very long time to see, absorb and eat and drink all it has to offer.

In the evening we all went out to a vegie caf Georgia found.

The food at this place was great, as was the service.

Tiz, on the way home.
